American vs Foreign

Ok finally I have a vehicle to get my complaints read and to vent my frustrations! Automobiles.com will
Its like I have been placed back in time and I am standing in the middle of the toy store with Henry Fords black American Express card and I can have anything and everything I want... Meaning... Where oh where do I begin...
Let me just start rambling... I am not an English major nor was I a journalist major so forgive me for mistakes and not following the rules taught by our friendly English professors around the world... :)
How is it possible that the American car manufacturers convinced us for years to buy their poorly built cars and trucks and at the same time convinced us that we should do this because it helped employ US workers. They never once said we screwed up and have building crap for decades and have now began to make changes, so hang in there while we get our quality control division up to par with our foreign competitors. This message never made its way to our newspapers or television sets.
One of the main causes for my parents not being able to get ahead while raising a family were the costs associated with maintaining a poorly built American automobile. Thank God my father was able to work on the car himself and he had friends that were also mechanically inclined. I watched my father continuously replace the door handles on the brand new Omni Horizon hatchback that my mother was so happy she was able to buy. This car was the biggest piece of shit ever built. If this car was to be put out today it would have generated a class action law suit. My father was constantly working on this car and every other US manufactured car we owned, new and or used. It was unreal. It wasn't until I was older that I realized it wasn't something everyone had to do. It was also after my uncle, who worked at a US Steel mill, purchased a Nissan and experienced first hand the reliability of a foreign built car.
Ford, GM, and Dodge is so lucky that Toyota and Lexus have not built a pick up truck that takes on a more aggressive design with a large powerful diesel engine. Because if they did, they would most likely be dead or on their way out.
I am a US Veteran and served my country in the US Air Force during dessert storm. So don't think I am some anti American loud mouth. I am simply pissed off that my parents, who were very broke, were brain washed to buy American and they were delivered a heap of junk that ended up costing them a fortune in the long run. My parents struggled to pay bills every week. The rent, gas and light, lunch money for school, etc; While the CEO's and executives at GM and Ford and the employees enjoyed beyond comfortable salaries and extravagant lifestyles. I have no sympathy for these companies and their lack of concern for the American family and American Workers. They should have been negotiating harder with the Unions and building a better quality vehicle.
I don't understand how come Honda and Toyota can get it so right and they cannot even get close!
