Automobile Dealer

Automobile dealers promote the sale of new cars and used cars to the public. An automobile dealer markets new and used cars to draw in business so that his or her inventory may sell and to create revenue for the dealership. The ability of a salesperson to sell cars from a new or used car dealership is contingent upon his or her marketing skills and the consumer trends. If the automobile dealership sells cars that are popular and affordable, his or her inventory will sell at a faster rate.

An automotive dealer works long hours, including weekends and evenings. Along with patience and stamina, salespersons must be versed in automotive knowledge, in particular, specific auto models, makes, automotive benefits and statistics. Some car dealers sell more than one car model and deal primarily with one manufacturer. Specialized luxury car dealerships may sell only one make of auto, their trade-ins being of that same make or of an equivalent model.

Automobile dealers of new cars glean approximately half of their sales benefits through sheer revenue. New car sales generate additional profits using ancillary departments such as regular servicing performed by the dealership, repair performed by the auto body mechanics at the dealership, in addition to potential trade-in revenue. Supplemental contracts that may also be purchased by customers who have recently acquired automobiles. Extended warranties and protection packages for aesthetics of the auto are included in these aftermarket sales.
